Vegan chocolate truffles

Delicious vegan chocolate truffles rolled in toasted pecan nuts, coconuts and cocoa powder.

Whenever I crave something sweet, I don't always have cookies or cake ready for me to indulge on so these chocolate truffles are the perfect thing to make and you can make a big batch that can last a week. They're also great to give as gifts too.

To make the chocolate truffles, you only really need two ingredients; the chocolate and cream. It's totally optional to roll them into cocoa powder or other toppings, but they had a little bit of texture and make fancier. So to keep these vegan, I used coconut milk to replace the cream, but instead of using the coconut milk you get from the fridge section and in a carton, I used coconut from a can as this would be a lot creamier and thicker.

When you roll them out they don't necessarily need to be even or round in shape, as you can see in the picture above. Once you've started rolling them in your choice of toppings, they'll taste amazing and look great.

380g dark chocolate (72% cacao or higher)

135g canned coconut milk (full fat or light)

1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

30g pecan nuts, chopped

20g desiccated coconut

20g cocoa powder

Pinch of salt


  1. Melt the chocolate over a bain-marie or in a microwave.

  2. Add the coconut milk, vanilla extract and salt to the melted chocolate and mix in well. Set the mixture in the refrigerator to chill 2-3 hours, or until almost completely solid.

  3. If using toppings, prepare these while the mixture is chilling. Chop up the pecan nuts and place on a baking tray with the desiccated coconut. Toast for 5-10 minutes in a preheated oven at 170°C. Be sure to move them around in the oven so it can toast evenly. Place in small bowls to roll the truffles in later.

  4. Use an ice-cream scoop or tablespoon to scoop out small balls, then use your hands to gently but quickly roll/form the chocolate into balls.

  5. Toss in cocoa, toasted pecans and desiccated coconuts. Enjoy truffles immediately, or chill for 1-2 hours or overnight. This allows them to set and firm up.
